What is The Manuals?

The Manuals is a long-term project that writes instructions for a new culture, where humans build ecosystems by reappropriating the objects, infrastructure and systems that underpin human civilisation.

Together, we will assemble a book that acts as both a practical and philosophical guide. The Manuals contains open-source blueprints and how-to instructions for transforming our man-made surroundings into new landscapes that provide for the other 8 million species who inhabit the planet.

Open-source blueprints for transforming our man-made surroundings into new landscapes
Right now, we think, build and behave in ways that support humans’ way of life, alone. But this planet is home to so many other beings. How can they prosper in a world of industrial farming and mega-cities? How can a change of landscape and mindset turn the tide of mass destruction into mass construction that reconnects us with the natural world in the process?

After hundreds of years of industrial civilisation, there’s no way to start from scratch to confront the mess we’ve made for ourselves. We have inherited a world in flux and this is what we urgently need to fix. So, let’s start work with what we’ve already got.

The Manuals begins to unravel how the objects we use can be adapted to provide the foundations for a new culture, which reframes nature not as an exploitable commodity but as part of our own life-systems.
